Tessie’s Rainbow

We welcomed Tessie, the most perfect and beautiful fluffy puppy, into our lives. She brought immense joy and love, transforming our house to a home the moment she arrived at just 8 weeks old. She immediately won our hearts with her intelligence and full of life cheerful personality. Tessie excelled at both basic and advanced puppy classes and eventually earned her Canine Good Citizen (CGC) and Urban Advanced title at just 12 months old–partly due to her love for snacks!

As responsible pet parents we prioritized Tessie’s well being by ensuring positive interactions with other dogs and people, receiving regular vet check-ups, practicing leash etiquette, ensuring sufficient hydration during outings, and physically carrying her until she was fully vaccinated– we even noticed the tiniest changes including scratches and the slightest sniffle. She was our girl and we loved her dearly. However, we’re located at the Southernmost point of the continental United States with limited resources and emergency veterinarian services spread thin.

The unexpected happened

when Tessie was just 14 months old. We stopped at a park on our way home from her favorite hardware store where we were just practicing our heels, high fives, and greeting all the people. It was an ordinary summer night, the sun was already down, and there was a cool breeze. It was 7:58 pm when we walked into the park. Tessie was full of life and playful, no sign of something wrong. She was playing with a tether stick, stopped, drank some water, and continued chasing the fabric squeak toy. She stopped again and appeared wobbly and in a split moment, we knew something was wrong. At 8:03pm, we made a phone call to a local emergency vet explaining our 14 month old puppy was unresponsive. In a total of 5 minutes, our life completely fell apart. She was gone.
